Save commuting time: Central Silk Board-KR Puram metro line gets the nod

The road stretch between Central Silk Board Junction and KR Puram has often been associated with extreme traffic during the busiest hours of the day. However, millions of professional techies who get regularly trapped in the traffic snarls in this area can expect an effective Metro solution just 2 years from now. Government of Karnataka has decided to declutter and decongest the IT hub of Bangalore by connecting the 18-km long line with Metro Rail that extends between the Central Silk Board Junction and the KR Puram.

This new project is an ambitious one and needs Rs 3,600 corer for completion. It has now been included with the 2nd phase of the Bangalore Metro project. The new project is going to be categorised as the Phase 2A. This new line, also known as Outer Ring Road Metro or the ORR Metro is going to have 13 stations. It is going to connect the HSR Layout area, Kadubeesanahalli, Bellandur, Doddanekundi, Marathahalli and Mahadevapura.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has closely reviewed the projects of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd on Wednesday and has commented that around 10 lakh people working in the ITBT industry regularly commute between the Central Silk Board Junction and the K R Puram on a regular basis and traffic jam is the biggest problem that they have to face. The professionals working with the IT industry have to spend long hours in their vehicles due to extensive traffic snarls. This is not only counterproductive for the IT industry but it also leads to a lot of chaos and mismanagement. This has led the Karnataka Government to brain storm with the head honchos of the ITITeS and biotechnology sectors and the traffic experts to find out effective solutions for such problems. The government of Karnataka has therefore worked out numerous decongestion plans to resolve this problem and the new Metro Rail line is definitely the most important one of these.

Siddaramaiah strongly believes that that new proposed Metro line between the Central Silk Board Junction and the KR Puram is going to work greatly to reduce the vehicular density on this stretch of the road that has surmounted into such a major issue. The new Metro line is also going to be an economical solution for the traffic issue in years to come. Siddaramaiah has already ordered the BMRC authorities to present with a detailed report for the project by October 20.

When it comes to the funding for this project, Siddaramaiah has said that BMRC is currently working on numerous innovative financing techniques. One of the senior IAS officers has explained that as the mobilisation of funds to cater to the Metro line like this is rather huge, it has been decided that the money will be derived from multiple sources. T

he experts are currently thinking of coming up with a premium floor area ratio or FAR for anyone planning to build Villa Projects in bangalore along this stretch. This should also be further accompanied by levying of improvement or betterment charges, using hoardings to raise finances, providing with premium ramps and access ways, commercialisation of space as well as levying additional cess taxes while at the same time approving new projects. These measures are believed to be potent enough to manage the financing of the project while at the same time make sure that the whole Metro line is constructed at the shortest possible time.

Currently, the Metro line is slated to take about 2 to 3 years to develop. The project has already garnered widespread attention from the media as well as the people of Karnataka. It is a common knowledge for anyone that the road between Central Silk Board Junction and KR Puram always remains congested for most of the day and unless special care is taken, it can soon develop into a major traffic nightmare. Statistics has revealed that the number of vehicles per hour has increased on this road over the last few years. The new Metro line is surely going to help in curbing this issue.
